Catedral de Santa María de Ciudad Rodrigo (Video)
Ciudad Rodrigo is one of the most famous Franciscan cities in Spain, and its imposing and majestic Catedral de Santa María, dating to the end of the twelfth century, is a major treasure of Franciscan history and art. The cathedral houses several works depicting St. Francis of Assisi and St. Anthony of Padua. One of these, the statue of St. Francis created in the early thirteenth century, is one of the best-kept secrets in Franciscan studies. The statue was created by anonymous stonecutters and is thought to be modeled on the actual saint who quite possibly visited Ciudad Rodrigo in 1213.
