Santa Clara Convent (Video)
This convent was founded in 1230, during Santa Clara’s lifetime (1193–1253). The oldest convent in Ciudad Rodrigo, it was built by Santa Clara's followers who came from Italy and who also founded convents in Salamanca and Zamora. Built outside of the earliest walls of Ciudad Rodrigo and ravaged by time and events, nothing remains of the original convent, but the current structure is exquisite. First called the Sancti Spiritus convent, its name was changed to Convento de Santa Clara after the saint was canonized.
