Center for Inter-American Studies

Center for Inter-American Studies

Founded in 2006, the Center for the Study of the Americas (C.SAS) is a University of Graz research institution that focuses on North and South American studies, especially with regard to the cultures there. The cultural issues of the Americas are subject to analyses that are interdisciplinary and intercultural, exploring historical, economic and socio-cultural contexts and thus leading to a transregional perspective.

While pursuing research in aging studies, transatlantic cooperation in higher education and intercultural communication, migration and culture contact, C.SAS has also been working to establish inter-American studies as a new field at the University of Graz. For the past four years, the center has been organizing lecture series, inviting guest speakers from Europe and the Americas to give talks on Americas-related topics at its events, copublishing a series of books with international partners, and successfully establishing an international summer school dedicated to inter-American studies, all of which have strengthened this new field and enhanced its visibility as a valuable research focus within the University of Graz.
