Helmut Flachenecker

Helmut Flachenecker is a historian specializing in medieval European history with a concentration on the Franconian region of Germany. He earned an Umhabilitation from the University of Göttingen and is a professor of medieval history at the University of Wurzburg in Germany. Professor Flachenecker's research areas include the history of religious institutions (monks, canons) in the Medieval Empire, especially Benedictines and Premonstratensians; the development of small cities in Franconia in the Middle Ages and modern times; and veneration of saints in medieval central European monasteries. A scholar, editor, and speaker, Professor Flachenecker is the author of the books Eine geistliche StadtEichstätt vom 13. bis zum 16. Jahrhundert (1988) and Von der Beginengemeinschaft zum Nonnenkonvent. Zur Gründungsgeschichte des Augustinerchorfrauenstiftes Marienstein bei Eichstätt (2000).
