The Franciscan Archive
An amazing compilation of links to Franciscan history, art, literature, and theology. This is one of the most complete websites on St. Francis and Franciscanism we’ve found. The one shortcoming is that it is a bit difficult to navigate and it deserves more attention to design and layout. But what a treasure! Our project has used it to find such rarities as:
- Historical documents, including papal bulls
- Franciscan saints
- Original Latin text of Tomasso da Celano’s biographies of St. Francis
- The Diccionario de las Fuentes franciscanas de los dos primeros siglos
- Publications has valuable work either as bound books, video DVDs or computer-formatted CDs such as a 28-DVD course on Ecclesiastical Latin and St. Bonaventure’s masterpiece of medieval theology (in English translation), The Journey of the Mind into God.
- The art section is limited, but it is an easy place to access official websites, such as of the Portiuncola and the Basilica of Saint Francis in Assisi. It has material not accessible elsewhere! For example on Saint Louis IX, Franciscan King of France
